The Pacquiao – Mayweather talks enter a second day of mediation in Sta. Monica, California, hosted by retired federal judge Daniel Weinstein.
No news yesterday was good news, indicating the team are working together to try and find a solution to drug testing that would satisfy both camps. Thousands of fans across the globe wait in anticipation on the outcome of what would surely be the biggest grossing fight in the sports long history.
Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, called the March 13 bout of last week due to undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather requesting Olympic style drug testing before the fight, Pacquiao back in his native Philippines was said to have been livid at the accusations of him taking any performance enhancing drugs, and filed a defamation of character law suit against his Money Mayweather, Mayweather Sr and Golden Boy promotions; who are acting on the behalf of Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Bob Arum stated Manny Pacquiao would defend his title on March 13 regardless, and set a Jan 19 deadline before looking elsewhere for an opponent. Arum mentioned Paul Malignaggi and Yuri Foreman as possible opponents.
Enter retired judge Daniel Weinstein, who was brought in to try and find a workable solution that suits both camps, Arum has stated they will adhere to any testing so long as it’s carried out by the Nevada state athletic commission, and also hinted the possibility of hosting the fight at the Cowboy’s stadium was still an option.
Both teams have been issued with a gag order, preventing any discussion with the media until the talks are over. “The longer the talks continue the better” said Fred Sternberg “that means they are working at it”.
